New newsletter, "Theophilus"!
"So that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught."
Last spring, my buddy Aaron approached me with the idea of starting a newsletter to help teach young Christians about Jesus. The idea was, in large part, inspired by the opening to the Gospel of Luke:
Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
That last sentence is the driving heart behind the project, to help young followers of Jesus have certainty in what they’ve been taught about the Way. And it’s from this passage that the newsletter derives its name, echoing the recipient of Luke’s Gospel…
Theophilus.
Not only did we find the name appropriate given the verse but also given the meaning of Theophilus’s name which roughly translates to “love of God”. That’s pretty much where a life of following Jesus is rooted after all.
Aaron and I have spent the last few months working on posts in order to have five out a week (Monday-Friday). Not long posts, but short reads no longer than five minutes. These are typically packaged in series that explore different topics and themes within the Bible and the life of a Christ follower.
We had a great launch party last night and this morning our first post went live!
I highly encourage you all to check it out, if you find yourself enjoying it then please do follow along. Every bit of support helps!
It’s no lie that we are living in a day and age where many objective claims are met with mass suspicion and even hostility. Now I’m a firm believer in the importance of nuance but I also know we require a firm foundation to rest at the bedrock of our being. This is what the Way of Jesus provides us.
Luke seemed to know it well when he wrote to Theophilus and, by the grace of God, I pray Aaron and I know it well in working on the newsletter that bears the once-recent convert’s name.
So, we hope you undertake this Theophilus journey with us. And that each day of the week these small little posts can help encourage or challenge you as we all follow the Way of Jesus alongside each other.
We hope to see you there!
For now, be blessed.
